Behind every smooth-running client account is a hardworking team member ensuring the details are spot on, and today, we’re catching up with one of them. Meet our Accounts Assistant, Chiara. Find out what a typical day looks like, how she keeps on top of deadlines, and the productivity tricks that keep her focused. From tackling year-end accounts to championing animal welfare on the other side of the world, she brings passion and purpose to everything she does, even if her dream role for a day involves a tail and four paws.

What’s your role at Bernard Rogers & Co, and what does a typical day look like for you?
I’m an Accounts Assistant, supporting our Client Managers with year-end accounts and occasional VAT returns. My day usually starts with checking for new tasks, reviewing my to-do list, and following up on emails. I then focus on progressing current jobs and noting any queries to raise. I'm also completing an apprenticeship to become a qualified Accountant, which includes attending college on set days to support my studies and exam preparation.

How do you stay organised when things get busy?
I am a big list person so when things get busy in the office I find I keep on top of my work best if I have a list of jobs ordered on urgency. I can then allocate specific jobs to each day of the week to ensure high priority jobs are completed on time whilst still making sure my other work doesn’t slip through the cracks.

What’s your favourite productivity hack?
One of my favourite productivity hacks is listening to music to help me focus, especially when I need to really lock in and complete a task. I tend to go for tracks with a strong bassline and no lyrics, as the steady rhythm helps me stay on task without distraction. It’s a simple tool, but it makes a big difference in maintaining concentration.

If you could switch roles with someone in the company for a day, who would it be and why?
Honestly, I’d switch places with Roxy the dog - our favourite unofficial team member! She brings so much joy to the office, brightening everyone’s day with her visits, friendly greetings, and impressive tricks (especially when treats are involved). It would be great to experience the office from her perspective…even just for a day!

What’s something you're proud of - professionally or personally?
I’m passionate about animal welfare, and I’m proud to have volunteered at an animal sanctuary in Zimbabwe twice, in 2019 and 2023. During my five-week stays, I helped care for injured wildlife and visited local schools to educate children about smaller animals like tortoises and chameleons. Since there are superstitions about chameleons in the local culture, we aimed to change perceptions and promote respect for these creatures.

Coffee or tea? And how do you take it?
I’m a bit of an anomaly - I don’t usually go for hot drinks. Every now and then I’ll treat myself to a hot chocolate, but day to day, I tend to stick with juice or water to stay refreshed.
