Frequently Asked Questions
What information do I need to give you if I take on another member of staff?
Please see the New Starter Form to find out all the required information for a new employee.
What happens if one of my employees is off sick?
You need to keep a record of the actual days they are off sick. You then need to decide whether you will be paying them full pay or statutory sick pay. Statutory sick pay only starts after an employee has been off for three consecutive working days. After the three days the statutory daily sick pay rate will be paid to your employee until they return back to work.
An employee can self certify their sickness for one week before a sick note will be distributed by a doctor. We do not need to see the sick note but it would be advisable to obtain one and keep it in your records.

Do I get to claim back the statutory sick pay? How?
The general rule is that the higher your proportion of sick pay paid to your employee to the total amount of NI paid over to the Inland Revenue, the more sick pay you are able to reclaim back from the Government. The proportion reclaimable is calculate by ourselves and then deducted from your PAYE due for the month.
Do I get to claim back Maternity pay?
The amount of maternity pay that can be reclaimed from the Government depends on how much National Insurance a company pays over for all its employees and how much the employee earns. Maternity pay is calculated specifically for each person depending on several different factors.
